Four of the leading UK Coaching Bodies created a “Statement of Shared Professional Values” at a round-table meeting in February.
Why is this important?
There are a number of coaching associations and bodies around the world, each with it’s own purpose, mission, values and standards. In order to come together as a profession, it makes sense to have some shared standards and values vs dozens of similar yet different ones. As is stated on the press release (link is below), one of the aims of the round-table is: “to co-operate to enhance the reputation of the coaching industry.” Shared values etc. does just that.
The four coaching associations who participated were:
- The Association for Coaching (AC)
- Association of Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision (APECS),
- European Mentoring and Coaching Council – UK (EMCC-UK), and
- the International Coach Federation in the UK (ICF-UK)
